Three bills affecting the trucking industry are currently being considered by the Texas statehouse. The first of the three local bills would increase truck weights under certain conditions. The second bill would address issues of nonconsensual towing in the area by imposing fee regulations. Lastly, one of the bills deals with U.S. veterans joining the trucking industry.

While everyone in the world would like to receive payment the instant a product or service is rendered, it isn’t always possible. For some industries, like the construction industry outstanding payments can be detrimental to businesses and cause a domino effect. For others, late-payments still don’t make running a business easy. A good way to help with this problem is to know what industries are more likely to struggle in this area and make sure you and your company do your part to help stop a chain of events leading to bad payment records.

These are currently the six industries with worst payment records:
  • Energy and utility
  • Agriculture
  • Electronics
  • Food Service
  • Construction
  • Freelance and Creative

If a late invoice remains unpaid the impact continues to affect the business both financially and growth wise. It is estimated that if small businesses were not paralyzed due to late payments the U.S. Economy could benefit with as many as 2.1 million new jobs.

A report by the Department of Transportation found that the proposal to restrict a trucker’s “restart” period did not benefit driver safety.  The originally proposed mandate would have changed driving hours as well as required that two nights were included as part of the “restart” break. Opponents of the proposal are “pleased” with the findings and believed that the changes would not have had any major effects on highway and driver safety.
