To help regulate the towing industries over-inflated tow bills, the Wyoming Highway Patrol has appointed Rodney Miears as the state's new Tow Recovery Program Coordinator. This position allows him to discuss large tow bills with the tow companies and gauge if the charges are fair. Miers along with the rest of the towing advisory board will be reviewing policies and will review proposed changes to the towing industry.
While Wyoming does not have set rates like its states to the south, Colorado and Utah, complaints can be made through the dispute resolution committee.
If you have questions regarding a tow bill, MCB can help you. MCB is experienced in working with state boards and appointees to ensure everything is handled as quickly as possible while reducing your tow bill.

An accident in New Jersey last week led to hundreds of thousands of dollars flying on to the highway. The accident appears to have made the secured doors malfunction on a Brinks vehicle. Many people exited their vehicles in the middle of the highway to pick up money that had escaped from the truck. Police have now reported that some of the drivers have returned the money saying, "it was the right thing to do".

If you lose your cargo following an accident MCB has experience in salvage, working with the tow companies, and insurance companies to get you back on the road quickly.

Insuring the Trucking Industry

Fewer carriers, poor underwriting, new laws, and technology make insuring carriers in the transportation industry very interesting. In a recent interview with Insurance Business America, Kenny Planeta from Heffernan Insurance Brokers explains that the biggest issue is  "huge lawsuits with even bigger verdicts" and that "The insurance carriers are forced to keep the cases out of court and push for settlements even in cases where the truck is not at fault. This has caused poor underwriting results, which are driving increases in premiums."
Not only do attorneys attempt to take advantage of the large liability insurance coverage but tow companies will sometimes charge over-inflated tow bills hoping that insurance carriers will simply pay out.
MCB has worked with many different insurance carriers and is the industry leader in decreasing excessive tow bills. If you feel your tow bill is unjustly charged, please contact our office at (520)442-1303.

While there are many other possible reasons an accident may occur, Legalscoops.com lists 3 common causes:

1. Driver Error
2. Truck Issues
3. Improper Load

Following an incident, there are many steps you can take to help make sure a tow company does not take advantage of the situation when they arrive. Make sure to take photos, videos, and log what people are doing. Contacting the towing company as soon as possible can be beneficial in reclaiming the vehicle or load.

If they refuse to release the property, or you feel you have been unjustly billed by the wrecker company, contact MCB,  a leading expert in negotiating with all parties following an accident.
